Back to notes

Last updated: 13 October 2026

In short

  • You don't need an account, and we never see your notes.
  • Written notes are saved only in this browser, on this device.
  • When you record, short audio clips are sent away just to be turned into text.
  • No ads, no tracking, no analytics, no selling of data.

Notes you type or edit

Every note — its title, body, chosen language and last-edited time — is saved in your browser's own storage (localStorage) under the name catat-notes. Nothing is uploaded to a server, and no copy is kept by us.

Because the notes live in the browser, they stay only as long as that browser data does. Clearing site data, using a different browser, a different phone or a private window means the notes won't be there. Export anything important as Word or PDF before you clear your browser.

Voice recordings — what actually happens

  1. When you press ● Record, your browser asks your device for microphone access. Nothing is captured until you allow it, and capturing stops when you press ■ Stop.
  2. Your browser records the sound locally and converts it into small audio clips of about 2 seconds each.
  3. Each clip, together with the language you picked and the last few lines of the conversation already written (so each voice keeps the same speaker number), is sent over an encrypted connection to this app's own transcription service, which passes it on to an AI speech provider that separates the voices.
  4. The words are added to your note, labelled by speaker. The clip itself is not saved by this app.

So voice is the one part of the app that leaves your device, and it leaves only to become text. If you would rather nothing be sent, type your note instead of recording — nothing is transmitted while you type.

Word and PDF files

Word and PDF files are built inside your browser at the moment you press Download. They are written straight to your device. The Share buttons hand the finished file to your phone or computer's own share menu (WhatsApp, email and so on). The app never hosts, uploads or keeps a copy of your exported files.

Who else is involved

  • Speech-to-text provider — processes the audio clips you record so they can become text, under its own terms and retention policy.
  • Google Fonts — the page loads two typefaces from fonts.googleapis.com, so your IP address is visible to Google when the page opens.

No other third parties are called, and no cookies are set for advertising or tracking.

Keeping your data and removing it

Press Delete on a note to remove it (the app asks you to confirm first). To clear everything at once, delete all your notes or clear this site's browsing data in your browser settings. Because there is no account, there is nothing for us to delete on our side — and nothing for us to hand over.

A few things worth knowing

  • This app has no sign-in, so it cannot tell one person from another and stores no names or email addresses.
  • Anyone who has the app's link can open it and use recording, so keep the link to yourself if that matters to you.
  • Notes are not backed up or synced. They exist only in the browser you wrote them in.
